Searching for 3S-GE Control Unit (ECU) Hi there again!
I've bought a 09/1997 3S-GE engine (170hp) and I need an ECU for it.
Some people told me I can use a 1994-1996 ECU from the 175hp-model also, so I take those offers serious, too
There's nothing to find here, so I need your help, it would be great if sb. has an ECU for me!
Thanks for offerings/infos,
Greets,
Björn

Re: Searching for 3S-GE Control Unit (ECU) Hi Björn !
Unfortunately MR2 sales stop in France around 1995/1996. If you add a few imported models you should count only 15 or 20 rev3 in our country (and no rev4 like your 3S-GE engine). Are you a lucky guy ?
I think that is better looking for this ECU in United Kingdom or Germany.
Best regards,
Fabrice

Hi Hicio,
the problem in Germany also is that there were sold only 43 MR2s with the 170HP engine from 1997 to 1999 also. I've been looking before about half a year, but there was nothing to find I was very lucky to get this engine, but without an ECU I can't give a hint about it The problem with the UK is the abnormally shipping costs. But I think this will be the next step. I didn't know that MR2 were sold in France only til' 1996!
A new ECU costs about 850 Euros at Toyota.. totally crazy, it doesn't matter whether you need a '99 ECU or a '91 ECU, all the same price.. A used ECU is about 150- 200 Euros, but none available for my engine.
And @ Invité: Some people told me so, it seems like it is possible to match a 175HP ECU to a 1997 engine, the only difference shall be the taxes.. I hope so! And 175hp models have been sold in France also. This is my chance!
But I will have a look in the UK boards, too!
Greetings,
Björn

175hp = 1994 - 1996

I know that the 1991 ECU doesn't fit
Otherwise I'd not be in need of a new one

Hi,
It appears that I am the only member of the MR2 club to have a model 95 (175CV)... I say that for if required helping quite simply this person who has a big problem with his ECU.
I perhaps a solution at lower costs, I'am a electronics specialist and I thought, if the person still has his bad ECU, it would be to send me and I could then compare component by components or try in reel time on my car.
I would need cavity the symptoms of the breakdowns and especially to be certain that : there is no risk for my MR with this failed ECU.
Ouf ! merci Babel Fish pour la traduction.

Gérard Pizié and Didier Paquet have also both a rev3

Hi there!
Because of less money I'd been forced to built in my 1992 3S-GE
engine. My car is out of order now since November 1st because of
the 1992 ECU which does not fit to my 1991 wiring harnesses. At
the moment I'm trying to solve the problems and I'm studying the
electronics handbooks of Toyota what is quite difficult for somebody
who isn't a crack in electronics and the heaviest thing ever he did was
to connect speakers to the hifi rack at home
So the 1999 3S-GE is still for sale at the moment until I recognize the
engine I built in last month is less worth than nothing (because it's not
been running yet cause of the ECU!)
If nothing helps, I will go CRAZY, so if you can see a big explosion and much smoke in the directon of Alsace you will know WHAT HAPPENED!!
Greets,
Björn

Hello Bjorn !
Nice to meet you in this french speaking MR2 forum !
If you want to buy an ECU for you car without spending a lot,you can phone to Rogue Systems in UK.
Ask for Patrick or Matthew and just order the ecu of the correct year and the corect engine.
You can find the phone number of Rogue Systems on Rogue's web site:
http://www.revision6.com
Theses parts are second hand but in excellent conditions,so you can have a very good price !
Cheers

Hi Alain,
the MR2 world is a town, indeed nice to meet you here.
The fact is that the money has been spent for changing the
engine, so if you can tell me sb. who will change my 99 engine
into my mr2 I could think about it again
the new 99 ecu is still too expensive for me but as i wrote, if
you can tell me somebody who can fix a 99 engine, a 91 gearbox
and all the other stuff to my car, why not???
Greets,
Björn

well, if the '92 engine works, there shall be no problem!
the '99 engine will either be sold or left in the garage - you
don't need to feed it
