German MR2 W2 dyno run day / test results

I decide to place this thread here because it is a very interesting information for all coming swaps.
We make a big dynorun event here in germany.

This are all cars which tested:

5 cars with 3S-GE 156hp and little tuning, 1 car with 3S-GE 170hp and little tuning, 1 Celica T18 with 3S-GE with fuel and gas, my V6 3VZ-FE, 3 cars with 3S-GTE 245hp around 1bar pressure and tuning, and at least I take a 3S-GTE 245hp at 1,45bar pressure who tested last month.

Attention:
- I use not rpm for the x-scale, I use km/h because we get not exact rpm output and the km/h are very exact.
- I use in all diagrams kw not hp (1kw = 1,36 hp)
- I use in all diagrams Nm not lbs/ft (1Nm = 0,73756 lbs/ft)
- All diagrams in german DIN engine hp not wheel hp
- To get rpm and not km/h you must multiple all 3S-GE/3VZ-FE km/h scale with 36 (60km/h * 36 = 2160rpm at 4 gear) to get the 3S-GTE rpm you must multiple the km/h scale with 34,9 (60km/h * 34,9 = 2094rpm at 4 gear) This base on 225/35/18 or 235/40/17 wheels.

Here are all 3S-GE engines with 156hp and 170hp:

You see, all 156hp engines are close together and the 170hp runs better over 5000rpm.

Here you see the two 3S-GE engines from 1994 (175hp) and 1998 (170hp):

There is not a realy big difference between this two engines.

Then we test my V6 with different ignition timing, first run at normal 10° and second run at 15° ignition timing. I use very high 98 octane fuel for both runs.

There was a very big surprise, I lost 9hp!!! with 15° ignition timing. It seems that the 3VZ-FE ignition control can not handle the earlier ignition timing.
A second surprise is, that there is a little difference between my dyno run 2007 and 2008 I get 2007 211hp and 248Nm and 2008 208hp and only 228Nm. My complete new exhaust system seems to reduce the engine power a little bit.

Now my V6 against 170hp and 156hp 3S-GE:

Now a very intersting test with a Celica T18 with 156hp 3S-GE against MR2 3S-GE 156hp. But the Celica use normal 95 octane fuel or LPG (liquid gas) as fuel.
Black line is Celica with gas fuel and red line is Celica with normal 95 octane fuel.

You see, that the LPG fuel gets better power at high rotation and kicks the 95 octane fuel.

At least we test the 3 Turbos with 245hp.
All between 0,95 and 1 bar pressure (14,5psi)

You see they are very close but get some high and low points, the engine control could be little optimized.

Here I make all 3 turbos togehter and take the 4 turbo with 1,45bar (21psi) which tested last month ago.

Until 3000rpm all turbos are same, then the 1,45bar turbo fly away...
He gets with 45% more pressure 40% more hp and 34% more torque.

Now the finish result of all 5 engine types.
This result is realy special, because it compare 5 different engines at the road speed and not with rpm! So you can see better the real road result!

You see that the V6 goes better then all other engines until 90km/h (55miles) if you use the short S54 tranny from the 3S-GE. Then the turbos run away to very high power output.
If I would use rpm as x-scale, the shorter V6 and 3S-GE would get little better results as the 3S-GTE.

I hope this will be a good information for all!?

I´am sorry tThere is a big mistake at my V6 torque diagram.

I have a big problem with my rpm tach. It shows not the correct rpm and the dyno station think that I drive a higher rotation as it realy is.
I change the back plate of the tach into the V6 plate but it is not correct.

At my last dyno run fuel cut was at 8500rpm!!! But real it is at 6800upm.
Now the dyno station correct the torque after kw x 6550 / rpm.

Thats why I get wrong torque diagram.
I think my torque must be around 260Nm not 228Nm.

Now I must wait to my next dyno run to test the correct torque.

The gearbox ratio make some comparison disturbing

Power = Torque x rotation
When looking at the MR2 torque graph we could say that it is higher than the celica LPG one, but power is higher on the celica.
GearBox ratio are delta weigth are in.

Ok, the kph range show the real result on road, which means one car is better than the other when testing.

Table interested me are the 245PS one

how could you explain me such difference in drivetrain power lost ? and how on a 2WD it could be so low (10%-) on NIS and Nipponstyle .

Except the crazy drivetrain lost difference, do you have the MOD list for Dr.BOSS and style please.

One day i will put my car on dyno, but your table show what i think before (my car goes better @1b than other guys with same engine but more boost), 50% of the reason is weight !!!

Yes, there is be a mistake with the torque, because all MR2/Celica rpm tach seems to be little wrong.
For the dyno run result the driver musst drive exact 2000rpm but my tach shows at real 2000rpm over 2400rpm, thats why the torque correction gets wrong.
Thats why I take km/h, because this is 100% correct.
At next dyno run we will test with exact 2000rpm to get correct torque.

I don´t know, why the drivetrain lost ist so different, perhaps is brake is not ok.

From Dr. Boss I have nothing, but from nipponstyle and NIS:

NIS:
-Dirty K&N Airfilter at original air box
-RS*R Exmag GT2 Exhaust
-Blitz Downpipe
-Grex oilcooler
-NGK Iridium plugs
-NGK ignition cable
-Greddy aircooler
-HKS EVC 5 with 0,9Bar and 0,95Bar Peak

nipponstyle:
- Apexi Power Intake
- 2.5" SMIC INTERCOOLER KIT with Spal
- 3“ (76mm) Cat Back System
- Coolingmist waterinjection
- GReddy Speed Cut Controller Type A
- Blitz Dual SBC Spec S (with 1bar)

Here you can see some videos from the dyno run:

Could it be the source for torque at low rpm ?

Here is a dyno (not my car) of a 245PS on a celica

277PS @6103
340Nm @4900
Drivetrain lost : 57PS ! on a 4WD

We still don't know why torque fall before get its higher value (OEM T-VSV boost regulation), the only MOD at this time was a TRD air filter in the air box, cat is still on and full. The car boost at 0.95 with a pic at 1b.

2000rpm is 60kph, 7500 is 220kph
The vid of this dyno run
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ_GGPUmOf0

Results are a mix of Nipponstyle for power and Dr. BOSS for torque (i look for rpm pic each time)

Smok at the end of this run and during yours is the richer mixture, a big lost of power and a good way to run out the ring quickly Embarassé
